I was reading through a magazine that caters to the "multi-millionaire" vacation property owner (at the dentist's) and found an article on deep well hand pumps (which I thought was odd - how many millionaires hand pump water?).

Anyway, the article made several excellent points about how to supply your property with water if you don't have any power. I didn't realize that a standard hand pump for a well will not work at all if the water level is more than 22' below the ground surface.

This was the company they referenced for deep well hand pumps.

Another company offering a similar pump is mentioned in this articles as well.

These are similar to the deep well hand pumps that were being donated to communities in Africa. They had to install them in a locked shed once set up as people were trying to steal the pumps....
