At the cabin I've been listening to music played off a cell phone. I have a pair of shelf speakers off an old Hi Fi system I would like to connect up for better and louder sound. Is there an amplifier that would do this? One with DC power?

Buy a cordless bluetooth speaker. Then you can take it wherever you are. I have a couple of Fugoos. Easy, siple, rechargable. Love 'em.

"speakers off an old Hi Fi system" The cone paper probably worn out. If you want good sound, try bluetooth speakers.

Shop the net, Crutchfield is always most expensive.

Guess my old big, premium speakers from 1978 that are in my attic are probably toast now? Only been there about 20years.....

The fugoo's are waterproof and the cover slides off to clean easily. I use one in the woodshop and wash the collected dust off.

On DC power, a car stereo with bluetooth could power those speakers.

JBL makes really nice bluetooth speakers that the sound quality rivals my 20yr old large Sony speakers. JbL flip4 is also the size of a travel coffee mug, waterproof and lasts about 8-10hrs. A friend had one zip tied or his RZR side by side for years.

I'm messing around with an old car amp, left over from my Van Halen days. It has speaker inputs LF RF LR RR but I forget where the other (neg) input wire goes. Source ground?

Well I had no luck with the old amplifier..
Then I found these PC speakers in my closet. 12v wall wort powered, perfect. Chopped that off, jumped them to a battery, of it went. Crimson and Clover, over and over.
Bluetooth and rechargeable are nice but I just want this for my shop, hard wired to the solar and speakers permanently on a shelf, no need for high tech.
I do have an ultimate goal of blasting music from the shop roof all over my 20,000 yard for parties, but I'll work on that later.
