I got a small relatively cheap CNC router/ engraver and a laser. Got it a few days ago. Still figuring out twerking the settings. The first test run on the laser, burnt pretty deep in pine.
Anyhoos, if anyone else, feels like they need something to do, when everythings done. This is a fun gadget/tool.
When I first sorta got it mastered. I figured I would make something useful, like a poop emoji for the outhouse.ðŸ’©
Then a beer coaster, and some test burns with the laser.

60 and more years ago it was the electric wood-burning tool, that sure eclipsed the magnifying glass!

Been fartin' around quite a bit more. Found out it's a pretty decent side gig mixing the burner with wood working and a little bit of painting.
Cutting boards, noodle boards, coasters, signs plack's etc.

Really nice... what machine is this? I've looked at an online retailer but most cheaper machines are limited to ~ 10" x 8"

It's a 3018 pro. Yes size is limiting, but I was able to pull off the noodle boards @ 20 x 11 1/4.inches. If you need to do a larger project. I just design it in individual blocks.

Anybody got any ideas? What type of coaster

Burn for him? The first thing that popped in my head, was the Sanford and Son truck, with a blower sticking out the hood, side pipes shooting flames, with a ladder rack and winch. ðŸ˜†ðŸ‘ðŸ¤”
I'm open for suggestions. Maybe I'll burn some when the weather gets crappy. Lol.

What I, and others probably, would love is one of our cabins, like the one you did above. Mine is real hard to photograph because of the steep hill and trees, I've yet to come up with a good pic. Maybe with the drone, if I could keep it in the air longer than 10 seconds without crashing.

darz those look awesome! I had a home-grown CNC a few years back, but it was basically an electronics project first, functional machine second. Does this rig come with all the software needed? Was the laser an add-on or did it come as a package?

As for ideas, how about maps of lakes/rivers/water systems?

There are quite a few models out there.
I got one that came with a router and laser. And a thumb drive with the driver install.
I use regular grbl program mostly. But there are free basic open source internet options.
There is a free very good but large download design program called gimp. I told my son about it and he had it mastered more than me.
He designs things for his cricut machine. I will post some things he's done, if I have them on my phone.

My son made me another painting for the cabin.
I love it. He's been shipping some paintings to Florida. He sold a painting of the flag and soldier like the one above, painted on a rock, for a hundred bucks. I've been making up some for Halloween.
