So the day after my recent 79th birthday the next job on my To-Do List was; build a new h-frame in an old wire fence line I needed to rehabilitate. I ripped out the old ones, installed 2 new posts with the horizontal member and twisted the brace wires.
Then as I turned to walk the couple of feet up the loose dirt slope to the truck my feet slipped out from under me. I fell. I broke my fall with my right arm. My head missed the tailgate by a foot or so, so a good save. But I buggered my right shoulder. The doc said it's a rotator cuff injury. No bones broken, but lifting or moving the arm in certain ways hurts like hell.
Of course it's my dominant arm. There are some things around here that are not going to be done for a while.

Oh man... I'm sorry.. Rotator cuff injury really sucks. I tore mine installing a faucet of all things. That was 9 years ago and it still hasn't fully healed. If I overuse it, it will start hurting again and puts me out of commission for 2 weeks before I can use it fully again.
I'm really hoping yours heals better than mine!

Getting old isn't for the weak. Hope you heal up quickly and glad it wasn't worse.

That sounds like a visit to an orthopedic doc and an MRI if it doesn't calm down soon. I believe if you are active and beyond breeding age, everyone's are torn to some degree. That is one of the parts on us that does not heal, we can build muscle to compensate and stabilize it to a point. If it is torn more than that you have a self feeding problem. If you need to push the head of your humerus down and in to lift your arm, here's your sign.
The cuff keeps the head of the humerus in place. Ultimately, when loose or torn and you try to lift the head rolls out of joint and bumps into the collarbone and you're stuck. There is more room in that area of the joint if you lift with thumb up and lower with thumb down.
I feel for you, start with a good diagnosis and work from there, hopefully you can do pain and torture (PT) and work through it without surgery.
Good luck, shoulder trouble is unfun.

Ouch! Yeah what DRP said... unfortunately. Being one armed I tend to overuse mine more than most. I have a couple small tears and it has made the joint a bit "sloppy", the tears don't hurt but the bumping the color bone did. Eventually the Ortho went in and cleaned up the joint then took 4mm off the end of the colar bone. Helped tremendously! The tears he doesn't want to touch unless they get worse.... that would be 6 weeks with my only arm out of commission... no bueno!
Yes! Get in, get it looked at, maybe just resting it will get you back to normal! Not all rotator injuries are tears.
