Hi everybody, my name is Mark. Just found y'all and figured I'd sign up and join the fun.
Wish I had come across this forum 10 years ago, that's about when we started our build.
Little back story. About 20 years ago the wife and I decided we wanted some property. We spent the next 2 years driving through the country looking for property every chance we could. On year 2 we found it, was perfect. Remote, raw, 95% treed, up on a ridge etc. Hard wood forest, mostly hickory and oak. We bought it and started tent camping for weeks at a time for the next 10 years.
The first structure built was an outhouse  . Then it happened. One Thanksgiving week a snow storm came through and we had to retreat down off the hill and to a hotel in town. We hatched plans and started building the next spring.
Most of the work has been ourselves, friends, and family but we have hired out some of the work. We set 25 piers on a hill side and built a 24'x28' foundation. On that we had a crew stand up a 2 story gambrel barn. The fun then really started. It seems never ending actually, that was about 12 years ago and we are still finding plenty of projects to work on. Since then we had a well drilled, electricity brought in etc. At first we powered the cabin with a generator, that was a carry-over from the tent camping days. Now I have a propane tank configured for backup generator power but we enjoy the silence.
Not sure this ki d of project is a good fit for this forum but I hope. I've done a lot of various projects, many of them unconventional, I also have plenty of puzzles yet solved. Hoping I can help hear and be helped.
