I was given an old Morso. I think it’s a 2b either classic or standard.

The ID of the flue collar is 4-3/4”. So a 4” or 6” stove pipe won’t fit without an adaptor which I do not think is made any more.

The people at the stove shop said the model has changed and new parts from Morso may not fit.

Any ideas on how to connect this stove to either 4” or 6” pipe?

Thanks!

Welding shop could make an adapter for sure. I would adapt up and not down.

The flue collar may measure 4-3/4" but what was the actual pipe size that the stove was designed to use? 4"? 5"? 6"? I have no idea. Can you find any info on what chimney size was recommended by Morso.

Yes there are 5" pipes but harder to find. I have seen some web site selling 4 and 5 inch single wall and insulated double wall chimney but don't remember the name. They had all the parts needed, ceiling supports, the whole ball of wax.

It is almost always a bad idea to go with a smaller flue. Bigger can usually be done. I believe the NFPA states that for a straight up thru roof design it is permissable to increase the cross section area of the original pipe by a factor of 2 to 3. However, if the chimney uses a wall exit then 2X the cross sectional area is maximum.

Keep in mind that an increase in flue size will slow the rise of the gases in the flur. A 6" dia pipe has 2X the cross sectional area of a 4" pipe. Flue gas velocity will be only half as fast with the larger pipe. Lighting a fire or maintaining a slow burn may be problematic. A longer insulated chimney pipe can help to increase the draft.

As was mentioned above, a good welder/fabricator should be able to build an adapter. The price might not be cheap.

If you have a MIG welder and some sheet steel, it wouldn't be hard to make an adapter yourself. Probably less than an hour of work.

Probably designed for a 5" pipe. Most decent stove stores should have (or have access to) sheet metal adapters.

@toyota_mdt_tech so yours goes from 5” at the stove to 6” pipe? Where did you get that adapter?

I don’t have a welder or the skills. But I know someone who might.

A quick search, see Home Depot has them, Lowes, ebay. Mine was put in by stove installer. I hired a local pro to install my stove.

Just make sure you search for pipe increaser, you cant install these upside down ie buy a reducer and put it in backwards.
