Hello to all,
I'm pumping water out of a 65 gallon tank that I fill at my neighbors well. I use it for showering in only. Do they make and sell small inline filters that I could install? I don't need anything big but was wondering if they had something like a inline fuel filter.

Try home depot or lowes... lots of options there.

The question I would ask is what are you trying to filter? Then, based on cost, availability of power etc etc you can narrow down options. Filters will range from something really simple for dirt or obvious bits and pieces through to virus protection (not to mention removal of chemicals etc). If you are only looking for showing and washing water, chlorine is another option. There have been a number of threads about filtration and purification.

I pump lake water and tried the cheapo filters with terrible results; the cartridge clogged up within minutes and was useless. I now use a two-stage string filter system with very good results.
But, if your neighbor's well water is clean and potable you shouldn't have that kind of problem and in fact may not need a filter at all.

We use this gravity filter to purify creek and rain water. Does around 5 gallons per hour with no real work on our part. Going on Year 4 or so. I backwash it every 20 gallons or so to keep the speed up, but that translates to once or so a weekend visit. Can't recall the filter price, maybe $75 plus a bucket. Others are certainly faster, but I like the no moving parts.

toofewweekends, I'm curious. What did you find in your rainwater that you made you decide you had to filter it? Did you have it tested prior to filtering?

What kind of small pump do you have? Shurflo has a replacement filter that fits in-line with 1/2" intake hose.

ILFE, just precaution. It comes off a roof down a gutter and sits in a blue plastic barrel for the summer. Picks up some color from spruce needles and general tree fluff, sometimes by September there's a little algae or similar junk growing in the barrel. If I time my last visit right, I'll drain and clorox the barrel before freezeup (Alaska).
The creek is home to nearby beavers, and carries a lot of tannin/color. Filtering takes out the possibility of giardia and some of the otherwise harmless color -- runs sort of like weak tea color most times.

I purchased a 50 mesh strainer with my Shurflo. It is piped before the intake side of the pump. Is that what you are talking about? I think Aveallc may be looking for something a bit finer?

My water comes pure from the mountain behind my camp. Been using it for drinking water since the 1970's. Also, have a 300 gallon holding tank for the taps in camp, gravity feed with about 10 psi.
