I am finishing a pole barn and the exterior sides are 1/2 inch OSB. I've decided on 4x8 sheets of Hardie siding for the exterior. Do I need anything in between the OSB & Hardie sheets? I may temporarily heat the barn occasionally.
I plan to use the loft as living quarters until I get the cabin built. I built the rafters with 2x4s with 5/8 inch OSB on top, finished with 30# felt paper and metal roofing. Should I spray foam insulation, use 1" foam underneath ceiling with room in rafters for ventilation or another method? Again, the barn will only be heated for weekend use and maybe a full week or two a year.

Looks like Hardie recommends a vapor barrier/wrap. Also looks like spray foam insulation is my only option unless I want to add ridge and soffit venting.

I would put a weather resistive barrier between the sheathing and siding, with any finish material... tarpaper or housewrap there.
I wouldn't insulate a building that sees one or two weeks of use per year and likely for a very few years... there will be more embodied energy in the manufacture and installation of the insulation than you will ever waste by being uninsulated.
