Want to buy a urine diverting composting toilet. What brand would you recommend and why? If you had a small 85 watt solar system with golf cart batteries would you run the toilet 110 through the inverter or 12 volt directly to the battery and why? Thanks!

We went with a Separett. its working well, I would use a 12volt computer fan with your small solar set up.

I'm with you on the Separett. Works in our cabin without a fan.

@ADK Don, google "urine separator diverter" of which there are many from various sources and not all that expensive. Urine Management is a key point to composting toilets, you need to keep it separate. Some toilet's like the SunMar work BUT they use power and "cook off" - kinda back asswards in a green sense IMO.

Next check out the Humanure site - The Loveable Loo which you can also make yourself
https://humanurehandbook.com/store/

Many options but all basically the same.... See here, an excellent resource as well:

As for venting / power. A small 12v garden tractor battery with a small 12V panel & controller (like those from Coleman/Sunforce) will run a "Computer box fan" nearly forever because even a 100cfm box fan only uses 12v @ 0.03a. You do need a 12v, fuse & proper wiring. Upping to 110v via inverter and then down switching with a wall wart you'll use over 2a... IF that is all you are going to run with your little setup, stay 12V. IF you want to run more then that's another discussion.

We went with the BoonJon C-head composting toilet and its work out great for us.
We're at the cabin just about every week end.
At first we dumped it in the composter after a weekend of use but now leave it to every other.
It's been fine, no mess and no smell.
We use a combination of petemoss and cedar chips as cover.
We have about 1/2 dozen coffee cans on a shelf with instructions right next to the toilet..
The wooden tank a pipe are just for "effect" and serves no real purpose...This was during last years remodel/ construction. It's more finished now

Hi, we have a SunMar, works great, (no elect/little to no smell) but we are only there for at most a week or so at time. At most we've had 5 people there using it. Liquid diverts to a leach field and solids need removed when the drum is too full.
