Did you ever resolve the issue of the screech owl?One good clue is they are the size of a robin. They don't really make a screeching sound. Can't really describe it,though.it's a scary, bone chilling sound but once you reconize it,it's pretty cool.

Was wondering if there were any birders in the crowd that could tell me what these two hawkidaes are? I think they are cooper's or sharp shinned hawks. I don't think they are merlins as they appear bigger. I have checked the birding books and some on line birding sites but just am not sure.

Neither cooper's or sharp shinned regularly overwinter in our part (central SK). They were hunting sparrows at our feeders a number of times during the winter and doing a fairly good job judging by the feathers.

Hubby and I went through our bird book. We think they are sharp-shinned hawks. Photo A is female and Photo B is male. Our book shows them in Sask. With hawk B you can see the points on the tail which is seen more in the sharp-shinned rather than the cooper's which has a rounded tail. Also sharp-shinned have a narrow white band on the tail tip while cooper's have a wide band.

Beautiful pictures, by the way.

Learning how to use my Bushnell Trophy cam. It doesn't work as I'd like, I get a LOT of pics of nothing. There are no branches or moving bushes near the camera. After one week it took 1927 photos, but 3 were of this Coyote walking by.

We have cougars too and I often see their tracks on my road. I am anxious to get pics of that fella.

Avan, you are right on. DSLRs are so nice.
Apparently I'm on some major consumer list as the flag for marketers to know when the last possible purchase will be made on something.
Soon after Y2K I bought another Pentax 35mm SLR after vainly waiting for the 35mm DSLRs to glut the market.
Immediately DSLRS dropped like a rock.....and so did the value of my 35mm Pentax.
Dealer put a Nikon in my hand......I have yet to let go.
So, sold my film camera to a student of photography, as the process of film developing was compulsory for her......$100
Back yard nature captured with the ol' 35mm (film) SLR.
I call this 'Feaster Bunny' as days after a hawk had dinner.

More film pix of back yard nature.
Used the old garage in the back yard for boat storage.
The old bird houses never had a vacancy, as apparently they were the right size for house sparrows...at least I'm pretty sure they are house sparrows.
Mom sparrow was quite wary in regard to Mr Hawk, as she fed the kiddies late one afternoon..... kept looking back.
You can tell by the faces of the little ones when mamma was on her return with more goodies.
Happy with the coloration (quite by accident).
Yeah, Avan, telephotos are nice.

I am not a photographer by any means. I do have a cute little pink point and shoot though, and have taken lots of nature pics with it!

thanks turkeyhunter!

I usually forget to bring my camera on hikes. Most of my 'pictures' are in my head. :)

I am trying to remind myself to pack it along on our hikes and fishing trips!

So many beautiful areas on our Coast. Wildlife still abounds here.

A couple from my weekend out. Leaves are just starting to change. We also had a bear visit us as we had a picnic on top of a nearby hill. I didn't get any pictures, but got a photo of his tracks outside my cabin later. I think he wants to see if his new neighbor shares.
