My bar soap at the outside shower is missing, again. Is some critter making off with it? Remember to wash behind the ears..

About two weeks ago we had 5 whitetail bucks come through together, the smallest was a 6 pointer. We keep seeing bucks now but not together other than couple at a time. We think they are brothers.

This is at home, but the setting is very cabin-like. A Coopers Hawk stopped by at the birdbath.

Birds this morning. “Stay away from the fire truck!” Good thing the dog slept through, he chases them like he’s not the scrawny little mutt he is. They just run from him, so far. IMG_3371.jpeg

Finally a buck wandered through. I’m not a hunter but my neighbor is, keeps telling me to let him know. Not sure if I ready for that.

Reading some of the stories here is giving me heebie jeebies Thank god the wildest action we get around our cabin are some deer, squirells and the occasional wild boar getting into the compost.

At cabin yesterday, trail cam download showed our regular deer, turkeys, rabbits, ravens, 'yote late night, and a pair of black squirrels (color variation of greys) and pretty neat. Hope they are a breeding pair.

Funny, around here in Southern Ontario, 90% of our squirrels are black. When I was a kid, I could never figure out why they were called Grey Squirrels. The actual grey (Grey Squirrels) are much harder to come across. But they do taste the same. We even have a population of white ones not far from here.

West Tennessee, Kentucky Lake.
I love reading your wildlife stores, here is a piece of mine.
We have the usual Deer, bobcats, coyotes, turkey, beaver, squirrels (gray, fox and flying) Geese, ducks FISH, etc. Then the very occasional mountain lion, wolf, bear and maybe still some Russian boar (thanks Hank Jr.). I've seen all of these except the Russian boar. I have also seen one black panther or whatever. Wasn't a house cat anyway. Most of these sightings were on a family farm situated on the border of the Old 23rd District of Henry County. My favorite sighting was a pair of Snowy Owls that went by my deer blind. I happened to be looking east when they glided by within 25 feet. I never heard one whisper of their passage as they slid effortlessly thru giant white oaks. I can still see them, one 50 feet behind the other, disappearing like ghosts as they descended into the hollow. They made more of an impression on me than our Bald Eagles. Nashville Millionaires and Billionaires are buying up the land. My little paradise is still the same and I'll get out of here before it changes too much, I think. I miss the gravel roads of my youth and rejoice when I'm in my hollow listening to nature, only upset by occasional distant echos of airliners overhead. Then I go inside my converted 1800's potato house, get a coffee refill and thank God for His blessings.

Great animals and stories Desim. Usual common stuff here on the trail cam everyday. I suppose I should feel fortunate but nothing to get excited about. Just the dog does…

This family showed up at my cabin over the weekend. I had been told they existed in the area, but this is the first time I have had visual evidence.
Update.. Sigh MP4 aren't allowed.. Let me figure something out.

Its a GIF. GIF is basically a low framerate video.
My cameras produce mp4 files and I just used a free online converter to convert them to GIF. You just have to watch the size as the conversion process increases the size and its easy to go over the 8MB allowed here.

Found a gif in my library. A long time ago a friend got this cut tree stuck and pulled it with a rope. Watch him scatter when it goes loose, still cracks me up.

Well that plays, cool. I don’t know on what that was filmed, it’s on my property I know that. Whatever I film with my iPhone doesn’t come out as a GIF I don’t think.

It most likely records in a .HEVC or .MP4.
You would need to convert it to GIF so you could upload it here. However, like I said size is a big issue. GIF is SUPER SUPER old and a very poor format. HEVC can store about 10 times more video for the same file size.
While it works you can usually only convert 15-20 seconds of video before it gets to large to upload here.
Ok enough tech stuff.. Hopefully I can have a bear video soon. There is a momma with 2 big cubs and one little puffball that hangs around our cabin. The little one is so damn goofy and cute. Now if they would quite wrecking my stuff I would be so happy!

Nice stories folks. Kinda different here than the lower 48. Still a little bit of wild around here. But what I enjoy. We have a lot lot of bears around the cabin. Both colors. Game board designated the areas emergency action plan. Because of the low moose calf survival rates. We can harvest 3 black and 2 brown bear per year. Any sex or age. I'm always concerned about the cabin being destroyed or the equipment. I have a 6 wheeler parked at the remote lake we land on. 2 mile walk to the cabin. Never know what condition I'll find stuff. Just have to deal with it. Like hot wiring the ignition after they eat the key. Or chew up the tires n seats. I've got extra of both handy. I really enjoy the wolves. Amazing how they know when we show up. I can hear the yelps of the pups and have been able to watch them from a distance. Listened to a pack of wolves take a moose down one night a hundred yards in front of the cabin. And they were still yelping n carrying on in the morning. We have a lot of migrating birds. Swans, ducks, geese, Sandhill cranes, many varieties of song birds. I've learned to spend enough time out in the bush to learn the local habits. Spend time just sitting in a ground blind watching, learning. And teaching others, family n friends. For me. The opportunity to be able to enjoy a bit of wild that is disappearing fast. Fortunately we own 20 acres in the middle of a kazillion acres of remote public land. Where not very many folks have ever been. And most of the critters have probably never seen a human. Giving me the opportunity to just go on walk abouts. Just slip my survival ditty bag on my back n go. Maybe come across a cow moose with calf. Watch them. I usually go pretty light. And usually manage to get kinda lost. I don't use electronics and phones are iffy. Nobody but me to depend on. Beautiful wife does buy emergency medical flight insurance. And she has had to stress test it before. Wonder daughter got me out first. Stuff happens. Being out in the bush does something for me. I can go out for a few weeks n just forget about time. It doesn't matter out there. It's a different world. One that I have been blessed to spend a lifetime enjoying. And feel comfortable there. Even kinda seems that the critters in the area have learned what I am. Now I just gotta get there. My buddy with a super cub on floats n me may head out later this week or next week. Do some dock building and hopefully harvest some bear to make brats with. And get ready for my family to fly out. Kinda my dreams coming true

I haven't seen a bear yet this year, but on a short hike yesterday in the woods around the cabin I saw lots of bear scat.
The fawns were back today, took a break from cleaning windows to watch them munching on blueberry bushes. Didn't see Mama though I'm sure she was near. IMG_20250618_154628_.jpg
