Quoting: Aklogcabin
I'll find stuff. Just have to deal with it. Like hot wiring the ignition after they eat the key. Or chew up the tires n seats. I've got extra of both handy.

Sigh.. I know your pain.. One year they ate ALL my seats and all the tires on 2 quads.

My big problem is they tear up my fabric buildings. I think they do it out of boredom as the buildings are open and they are free to enter. Loosing a $1500 building each year is painful.

Yeah I'm sure boredom comes with ripping stuff up. Especially the cubs. I've found chewed up totes and water jugs all around the cabin.
I believe bears like things made from petroleum products. They will drink all the oil n gas that they can I think.
I found the door to the generator shed open upon arriving at the cabin once. And I have old food stuff n cans that needed to be freighted out. Bear opened every oil n gas can it could n never touched the old food stuff. I would leave the key in the dead bolt. Bear turned key with tongue

Just took a pic of this little one about 10 feet off the driveway.
The other one was yesterday.

Here's a screenshot from a video around 5 o'clock today. I was on the golf cart trimming some limbs on the trail. When this little deer walked from almost all the way down the trail, right up to me.

This fellow has been hanging around for 3 days now. Yesterday he puffed all up and fanned out his tail and started calling for the ladies... except we haven't seen any ladies. Maybe he'll get lucky soon!

We have had a few moose threw the yard, not unusual. The silver fox that showed up on the security cameras was somewhat rare. I've seen some red fox but not often.
We have a 6 wheeler at the lake we use to land on to get to our cabin. It's 2 miles from the lake. The black bears seem to be the ones that are kinda mischievous. The brown bears are the ones that kinda get me concerned. We have porkypines that chew up the plywood sides of the generator shed. Hopefully they won't get through before I get some metal roofing on the sides to keep them from getting in. I built the cabin floor 4' off the ground and windows 7' to try and keep bears out. And not have to dig down through snow to get to the door. Bear mats for the deck. Was out hunting n got back one day to find the window screen torn from bears. Close call.
We generally get swans on a lot of the smaller ponds. They have a nesting site on a small bit of land surrounded by water. Huge pile of little sticks. Not unusual for the wolves to get a few as I will find feathers around. In the fall they will start to group up. I once had probably 50 plus fly over my head one early morning while moose hunting. Pretty darn cool. They were about 10 feet above my head. When they are ready to get flying in the early mornings the leaders will start making a ruckus and pretty soon they are all clacking. Then they leave.
I was out once going down a trail threw black spruce forest, really dense trees. And for over 20 minutes I was surrounded by red poles, little sparrow like birds with redish breasts. All chirping with excitement.
We have ravens that will cruise over the yard. I like to try different raven calls to see if I can turn them. Seems that the caw sounds work best for that.
The salmon are running heavy and the bears are concentrated around the waterways. Salmon can be in little bitty creeks. So we're having a few encounters around.
I like to keep sunflower seeds at the cabin for the spruce hens. I'll drag a log around the open areas of the cabin where I can. The undergrowth is 3-4' tall. The birds get better access to bugs. And I encourage it by throwing seeds out. And I have a little better opportunity to see bears around the cabin. And they will rip up any and all mice, shrews or voles they can. And there is open dirt n pebels up the cabin for them year round. So we generally have a family that roosts in the nearby trees.
We get a lot of migratory birds, Sandhill cranes n loons are great music. Literally thousands can be seen flying south each fall in large groups. Pretty cool. I enjoy just sitting out near the pond in the evenings. The local wildlife meeting hole. Not uncommon to see wolves, that know exactly where I'm at and leave me gifts on my trail. Lynx families moose. And just the peace n serenity that can only be found there. Yeah a good way to spend an evening. Especially when my beautiful wife comes along ?.
I've spent a lot of time there watching the world. Nature's TV. Wish I was there now but will be soon. And hopefully spend a few weeks out during moose season. Although I'd prefer to be there for 6 weeks. Fall time around here is a busy time for all us critters.
Haven't seen many fishing reports here yet. We have northern pike in the pond. And salmon streams near. Couple years ago when Jordan Jonnas came up moose hunting it rained sooooo much that the salmon were in the muskeg as all water ways were flooded.
Cabin time. A time that I can kinda remove myself from the rest of the world. No clocks, computer n phones kinda. And plenty of time for a walkabout to go explore the beaver dams. Search out moose wallows and watch the many birds. It's a special place for me. The cabin provides me with shelter. The wildlife is n serenity keep me wanting to always be there more.
Have fun n stay safe

This past week our trail cam got a pic of what looks to be a small cougar, not a common thing here in S-Cent WI. Our DNR says we have no known breeding pair or 'population' yet sightings (and cam pics) are always increasing. They say the sightings are likely solitary males from 'western states' passing though.....um, through to where, Detroit to try out for the Lions?

One of my sister in laws was hunting whitetails with her Dad in far north WI. Fiddy some years back. Saw a black one come past her
