There should be a drain screw on the Eccotemp core. Just remove that and apply a few lungs full of air to the inlet and you should be safe from freezing
I do that everytime we leave in the early spaing and late fall and have had no problems.

We did use the drain but not the extra effort of blowingf it out. Seems to me the manufacturer could design the coils so that when the drain is opened it ACTUALLY drains.
Lesson learned I guess

Thanks MikeOnBike for the tip. But we will not be leaving it outside anymore. Will drain it COMPLETELY and blow it out before packing it inside.

We found the cabin as it should be, just fine! My daughter and son-in law joined us, but had to cut it short as she started to get sick and wanted to head for home. We hung around for another day, but since we had the grandma with us this time too decide to cut it short and head home as well. Because this did not turn out to be the visit to the cabin we planned, nothing was accomplished. We just enjoyed it. No new pic to post, maybe next time. We are hoping for a more productive spring break. Anyone else headed to their little bit of heaven for spring break?

Spring Break at the cabin went very well. This time we got alot done. Basically making it ready for a hot summer. Since we bought in Oct. we have not spent a summer there, but have heard it gets hot. We got about four projects done. I will list each one separate with pics.

Last project Hubby did was insulate the ceiling and more of the walls. We lucked out to find scaffolding for $100 bucks, which made the ceiling job so much easier. Wow we did not realize that insulating the cabin was going to be such a large expense. We later found a temporary use for the the scafold as you can see below. Ceiling

Sure thing cabingal3. I am just using this site to journal our journey so we can have a place to look back and see the progress. Much easier here than trying to scrapbook it.

Well the floorplan has changed. Once we mapped out the walls the bathroom just was not working out. Needed more space for the special vanity I bought so I had to give up my bedroom closet. Updated and final I hope.

Good suggestion rheber...or enclose one end of your porch for a walk in closet off the bathroom.
Pretty exciting I'm enjoying your thread!

Rheber8 - I thought of that but hubby really wants the open stairwell look to keep the cabin feeling like it is more open.
Since we are not living in it full time and will not be for another 12years We will the deal with it later. Maybe add on to make bedroom bigger and add a closet.
Thanks Trollbridge.

Today we purchase our cedar beams to get started on the loft. We will be making a materials run to the cabin this weekend. There will be several more of theses as we have to get all the loft materials there by May 18th when a group of guys are going to give us a hand. It is all so exciting Excuse the mess, my daughter & her hubby are storing in our garage as they are moving to our area and waiting for their apartment to be ready. 2013_easter_039.JPG

All was well at the cabin this past weekend. But wow had the grass & brush grown alot in just 3 weeks. Everything was so lush and green.
All the plants and trees I planted last trip are doing good so far. I added a lemon & orange tree this trip and think that is all I will do this year.
We were able to make a material run from home and then a 1 hour drive into the city near by on Sat. for another truck full. Found the doors for the bedroom & bathroom.
And we had an uninvited guest build a nest in our window flower box by the front door. So everytime you go out the door you get swished by the momma bird who has laid 4 eggs. It will be fun for our 7yrs old to watch them hatch maybe.

Hubby went to cabin with a friend during this past week and they got the loft put in. It did not turn out as our original plan, but it's growing on me. I really liked how the cedar beams and the ceiling look in the bedroom & bathroom Bedroom ceiling

I spent on whole day push mowing the paths, the drive in, along the roadside of front of property, & our play spaces around the cabin. The Eccotemp shower sure felt great that night. I got to get me a riding lawn mower if I am going to keep up with it!
ANY SUGGESTIONS OUT THERE ON RIDING MOWERS YOU LIKE???
I did get around to updating my screen door as we were starting to push through it. So I added some wood pieces. Added a pic of below. Updated screen door

What do you use or what is your favorite mowers brand?
We were looking at the Raven that Lowe's sold, but they have put them on stop sale. I guess they are have major problems with them.

Going to swing by the cabin on the way home from vacation. Just want to check things out as we will not be able to spend time there until kiddo gets our of school. DH wants to spend two weeks at the cabin this summer.
How many weeks at a time do you spend at your cabin in the summer?

I usually try to spend a month at the cabin in the summer. Sometimes I have to go home for a night or two during that time but I am hoping I won't have to this summer. My wife gets about half the holiday time I get so she will spend about 3 weeks with me.

Hi All, On our swing by the cabin all looked well. All planted fruit trees look good with the exception of the blueberry bush, do not think it will make it. The swing by, turned in to a 2 night overstay. We just hate to leave the cabin and try to squeeze in as much time as we can.
DH worked on the stairs and got them completed, put up temporary railing. Then worked on more electrical as we now know where we want things.
I was able to find two leather chairs that will work out in the living area. Right now it is tight with them, but as soon as the loft is complete the day bed will go up there and we will be looking for a nice little sofa to go with chairs.
Our next visit will not be until the middle of June and then we plan on staying 2 weeks.
