Darz and I have been posting cheap things we’ve gotten for the cabins, and figured it would be good to have them all in one place. So here we go, I’ll start with an item he turned me onto awhile back for starting propane heaters, stoves etc. Easier than a lighter, wind proof, no leftover matches.

Here's a few USB cables that I have that are useful to get some added distance from the wall wort.
The red ones have different USB ends to charge multiple devices at once.
[
The other 3 have micro USB ends. But they came in 10,6, and 3 foot lengths.

Nice. And when not using those cables, or in use, I use these pipe cleaners for wrapping or tying out of the way. Just thin wire coated with cloth, easier and reusable than zip ties. Pack of about 50 at the dollar store.

This is a portable wind screen. We use it on the side burner of the bbq rig and the gas one stove in the pic. $5 bucks on temu. Amazon has them too. Pretty handy.

Another USB rechargeable gadget I’ve had for a few years is this bug zapper. I’m pretty fortunate I don’t have many flying insects here, maybe it’s the lack of grass due to the forest. But there’ll be a few, and this will go all night on a charge by the bedside.

I did just by some flypaper at the dollar store, haven’t tried it yet.

I'm loving these rechargeable under-counter lights. You can do things in the kitchen without turning on the overhead lights. They could be mounted anywhere really. Sticky tape holds a thin light strip of metal then the light sticks to that.

We have them at the AZ house and am amazed how long they go between recharge.

$20 for a pair.

There must be a secret to using Super Glue that I never learned. Yesterday I sat on my plastic reading glasses, broke right at the nose junction. Applied super glue, held together for a couple minutes. Came right back apart, one hand glued tight to one half, other hand to other half. What is it with this stuff, bonds everywhere except where you need it. Should have used epoxy.

There must be a secret to using Super Glue that I never learned

First super glue is known as a cyanoacrylate adhesive, abbreviated as CA.

CA does not work on all types of plastics for one thing. CA glues struggle especially with polypropylene and polyethylene plastics. They have too low a surface energy; too slick, too smooth. Surface energy can be increased by roughening or sanding. Sometimes cleaning the surface with acetone can help remove oil or grease that is causing the problem.

There are also some CA glues that are designed to work better on low surface energy substrates. Some accelerators can help in such situations.

I like Starbond brand CA glues very much. Different viscosities are available and they also have three types of accelerators available as well as some colored CA glues. They are great woodworking glues too. I store their CA in the fridge and it keeps for a couple of years with no problems. Store below 40F with lids tightly capped.

It is not cheap, but the bottles are a decent size and last long as well as really working well https://starbond.com/collections/all-products

Thanks ICC. Explains why those glasses frames wouldn’t glue.

Darz, not seeing your fancy chip hanger.

Fancy, no. Functional yes. Lol
Simple clips on a stick. Takes up very little wall space, and keeps your chips from getting smashed.

Don't know why I have problems posting pics on this site. It either posts half pics or won't post at all. Says timed out or website changed or not responsive etc.
I gave up earlier and went fishing. Lol
This is the only site that does this. All others posts the actual pictures without problems.

Wow, neat chip hanger Darz. I need to make one for band-aids.

I have a similar log cutting jig but made out of 2x4s. That steel jig worries me, the way my chainsaw crashes through after a cut.

Maybe Gcrank can help with your image posting trouble. Seems to work effortlessly for me, here’s my hernia surgery scar from this week, speaking of lousy cuts. Could have done it cleaner with a chainsaw.

Ah it’s ok, my male modeling hopes ended 50 years ago. Actually that looks like it may be two scars, one new and one oldie.

Back to bugs, had to pull this out last night. Big wasp in the cabin front window, took a few zaps to do it in.

Love those bug rackets but gave myself tennis elbow last spring swatting deer flies and it still hurts at night. Hate how long it takes to heal these days

My cabin booze blender. Old weed eater engine, foot stool, cycle bars and a pitcher. Made it many years ago, I think they came out with a production version at some point. Probably USB powered nowadays.

I'm impressed... but more impressed by the buckets levitating in the background! I thought you were in CA not Area 51!

That’s how it is around here. I used to think it was just me getting old and forgetful, but it really is just stuff getting up and vanishing on its own.

Buck twenty five store. Real metal! I’m going to use it for a dog leash holder but probably has other heavy duty uses (hinge?). I’ve bought those plastic ones on suction cups before, always on the floor later.

Hit 90 at the cabin today. Nippy for you sun baked folks but sweltering for us woodsy coastal critters. Wifey and I both have these USB fans pointed at us. They’re doing the job. There’s a big 110 ceiling fan but it’s not plugged in and inverter is off.
