Saw a guy made a wrap of tp roll cardboard around a AA to fatten it out to a C size and duct taped it tight. Real Red Green stuff that

I had assumed, without really looking, the 3 AAs were in series.
So the whole thing runs off 2 sets, 3 volts, same as 2 Ds. It would likely be fine on one 18650 lith. I’m going to buy another one for the house, maybe I’ll try.

Second fuel pump came in the mail yesterday. Didn’t bother with the AA adapters, just popped in 2 Ds and off it went.
Then took the wife to her new Dr. office, which happens to be in the same shopping center as Harbor Freight. How lucky is that! Glanced at the pumps there, look the same. No AA adapters in those? Needing nothing else really, still managed to buy a dozen things, tape, screws, glue, hooks..

The HF yesterday is about 30 miles from my house. From the cabin, there’s another one in the other direction, again about 30 miles. I don’t know what their national coverage is but it sounds like plenty. A little sad that it’s all imported stuff but for us DIYers the prices can’t be beat.
The fire department guys laugh. All their stuff is Milwaukee, Snap on, Stihl.. But they have grant and donation money pouring in. For emergency services I suppose it’s better that way.

Harbor Freight is OK for some stuff and terrible for other stuff. Good for tools you'll use once or rarely, or for real simple stuff. It's hard to screw up a hammer but HF isn't where I'd shop for, say, ratchets or wrenches... if you've ever had a cheap wrench break while trying to loosen a stuck bolt you know why.
For tools I'll use for years I'll pay more for the quality and feel of a better tool.

Agreed. No HF in Canada but I’ve been to a few in Michigan. Our equivalent is Princess Auto. Great for one off specialty tools or things where quality isn’t critical. But essential tools are name brands

My wrenches and sockets are Craftsman, back when we had a Sears here and I was a rookie mechanic at the Chevron station. Forged in USA right on there. I miss that Sears.
BTW I’m in auto shop class again (that free electric Toyota is still there, grrr). We have to take a safety test each semester, and one question always pauses me: Which way do you pull a hand tool (if it slips or breaks), toward you or away? I can see both sides, towards you and you’re liable for a broken nose, away and it’s a fall. There is a right answer…

Some PA Propoint stuff is shockingly good. My son has an Pro Point air impact at work that beats multiple Snap-On guns they have. Its heavier and not as refined in the hand, but damn it busts things free. I bought one for my home shop now.
Another option are Husky at Home Depot. The Husky hand tools (wrenches, ratchets, screw drivers) are VERY good. I have abused the crap out Husky hand tools and they still hold up. Pretty sure they are manufactured by Apex Tool Group who also makes Gearwrench!

Wow, 35 ft.. I could strap all the way around the cabin. Earthquake prep.
Got a full box of clamps I’ve scavenged. Some don’t even have open slots. I like the one with the flip up screw, off and on with a twist.

Does anybody buy off of temu, wish or any other cheap stuff website? I got a few crawfish traps from temu a few years back and they are still being used. IIRC the only drawback then was it took awhile to get it shipped from China. Now you can get it a lot faster sometimes. I was just checking out some rechargeable under counter LED lights. You can get 6 12 inch bars for under $10 bucks in 3 business days. I might go ahead and get them.

I bought a 2 pack of what sounds similar off Amazon a couple years ago for the cabin as movable lighting. Mine have a magnetic back so all I needed to do was put up cheap metal plates in a few strategic locations. Amazon is still my go-to but Ive noticed higher prices since the tariffs (yeah, duh).

Amazon been suiting me too since I learned about, mostly from you guys. But I don’t spend a lot, trying to wind down, most recent was a Harbor Freight log splitter. I was looking at an electric suv cart some months ago and there were prices almost half of Amazon that Oriental seller Tele something. Nervous about that there are so many scams out there. I do want to get my wife this lifting chair though, getting so I can’t lift her anymore when she falls. Probably just get it on Amazon.

The very best thing about Amazon IMO is their return policy. I've never had any hassle if I needed to return something. I had a third party seller that was giving me the runaround once. I called Amazon customer service and they made it right. Now they are a bit more strict on the habitual return people, but some people just try to scam them I'm sure.

With all the bad weather lately, my shoes and boots/feet were constantly getting wet. I used to have a boot dryer with the tubes etc. that worked great. But it bit the dust a few years ago. Anyhoos I picked up this cheap dryer, and so far it works really good.

Quoting: darz5150 just ordered this combo pack
So I put all my new rechargeables through the charger last week and put two in the smoke detector, which usually wears them down pretty quickly, you can always tell because it gives a warning beep when they are going. A week later now and they still pass the test beep no problem. We’ll see how long they go. Also 4 went in my favorite flashlight..

Quoting: paulz So I put all my new rechargeables through the charger Is that the Amazon ones or did you order the combo pack? Hopefully they will work out for you regardless of the brand. Keep us posted. I am still testing the combo pack. Hopefully the batts hold up, but so far I can say the smart charger is bad ass. I also got a battery tester after you posted yours. I used to use a multi meter but it so much easier with the tester than trying to hold the probes. I think crank said he keeps older batteries. I too have a box full of "maybees". Found out a lot of them are still good. I found some 4 or 5 year old batteries from the $ tree. Back when they were red and white. I was surprised they were still fine.

Nice tester. Yes much easier than holding a multi-meter, battery and two probes, taking a dexterity I barely poses anymore.
I bought the same rechargeables as your first post, the green Amazon basics. I have another of those yellow flashlights so used another 4, so they are getting used already. The fluid transfer pumps which I’ve also been using, just got regular Ds, finally using up the stack of those in my battery box. Now if I could find a use for those Cs.

One thing I’m learning about this Amazon thing is it’s a good way to waste a few bucks when bored with nothing else to do. So while at the house dreaming about being at the cabin I got these. First a set of ear warmers for more USB junk. Self contained battery, 3 heat settings. Then I got this wall climbing toy hoping maybe I could climb the trees at the cabin. It goes fine but doesn’t climb the house walls to well and sure ain’t gonna climb trees. But it does drive the dog nuts running around on the floor, I’ll get my use out of it that way. IMG_6525.jpeg

It gets easier, when they text or email products that you never realized that you need. Lolol. I am surprised you got electric earmuffs. If you get one of those neck fans, you could have a mini split rig for your head. Heating or cooling.
